Message to Indian Community

During Curfew in Mauritius

High Commissioner Tanmaya Lal

12 May 2020

Namaskar to all our Indian friends in Mauritius.

First of all, I want to thank you for showing remarkable patience during this very difficult period.

We know that many of you have urgent reasons to return to India and want to know when you can travel. We understand your eagerness and anxiety.

We have your details. We have regularly reached out to you, assisted and facilitated many of you.

As you are aware, because of this unprecedented situation, just like you in Mauritius, there are thousands and thousands of Indians across the globe also wanting to return to India.

Government of India is working hard to make this happen in an orderly fashion.

This is to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

This is a hugely complex task and requires coordination at a massive scale.

It goes beyond one single embassy or a ministry or an airline.

State governments and many other ministries and agencies are working on this.

For everyone’s safety, it is essential that sufficient quarantine & testing facilities are available;

healthcare and frontline workers & medical facilities are in place; and international and domestic transport arrangements can be organised.

Officials are working day and night to on this.

Some flights have now started.

We will keep you updated on developments regarding Mauritius through our advisories.

The good news is that the situation in Mauritius is stabilizing.

I and my colleagues will continue to assist you.

Let me again request you to avoid panic and continue to support each other.

Stay safe.
