Scholarships to Mauritian Students

Indian Government offers 60 slots to Mauritian students under the India-Africa Maitri Scholarship Scheme (formerly Know as Africa Scholarship Scheme G-0179) for the Academic Year 2024-25 for perusing Undergraduate and Post-graduate studies in various fields, Engineering, Science, Commerce and Economics, Indian Languages, Agriculture, Applied courses like Pharma, Design, Fashion Technology, Fine Art, Journalism & mass communication, Performing Arts, Computer Application, Tourism Management and others in Indian Universities/Institutions.

Indian government also offers 100 scholarship Slots for Global students under Lata Mangeshkar Dance and Music Scholarship Scheme (formerly known as ICCR Scholarship scheme for Indian Culture A-1209) for the academic year 2024-25 for perusing study of Indian culture as dance, music, theatre, performing art, sculpture, Indian languages, Indian Cuisine etc. in Indian Universities/Institutions. Scholarships are NOT provided for Medicine and related fields (except Ayurvedic medicine, for which there is one slot), Law and Education (B.Ed./M.Ed.etc.). Scholarships are also not provided for IITs and IIMs. These institutions have their own admission procedure.

Apart from above, scholarships are also offered under (i) PG Medical Scholarship Scheme-Generally 3 slots are offered for Mauritian nationals to pursue postgraduate medical courses at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), (ii) Scholarship Scheme for Craft Instructors - 2 to 4 slots are offered to Mauritius nationals, (iii)Scholarship Scheme for Propagation of Hindi Abroad - 2-4 slots are offered to Mauritian nationals at Kendriya Hindi Sansthan, Agra, (iv) Africa day Scholarship Scheme - 01 slot on rotation basis to national of any of the African Countries. These scholarships (except scholarship scheme for propagation of Hindi abroad) are coordinated by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi. 

Scholarship offers to Mauritian students are conveyed every year to the Mauritian Ministry of Education. The Ministry invites applications from eligible candidates through press advertisements in February/March every year. After screening and short listing of applications, the Ministry calls the candidates for interviews. Applications of nominated candidates are sent to the ICCR, through High Commission of India in Mauritius. The ICCR strives to get confirmations for admissions from autonomous Indian Universities, which are communicated to the nominees through the Ministry of Education, Government of Mauritius. However, acceptance of all nominations is NOT guaranteed and is subject to confirmation by autonomous Indian Universities. The slots are materialized, subject to various parameters, namely, eligibility in terms of subjects/grades in qualifying examination, availability of desired course/seats in desired institution etc. Nominated candidates are advised to give multiple choices of courses/institutions for better utilization of slots.
