Message to Indian Community

During Curfew in Mauritius

High Commissioner Tanmaya Lal

26 March 2020

Namaskar,

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected all of us in unprecedented ways.

Through this message, I am reaching out to my Indian friends in Mauritius.

Especially all Indian students and interns, who are anxious to get back to their families in India.

Also to their parents, friends and loved ones in India who are worried.

Friends,

This situation is indeed unprecedented.

And is not limited to India and Mauritius alone.

The medical students among you will better understand the scale of this pandemic and the importance of the drastic measures put in place.

We fully understand your anxiety at not being able to return to India at this stage.

Many of you have reached out to us on social media and our helplines.

We continue to individually respond to each of your requests.

I want to assure you that Government of India is fully aware of your concerns and is undertaking all measures necessary to ensure your welfare.

High Commission of India is in regular touch with the management of various colleges where Indian students are studying.

They have assured us that there are no shortages of food and other essential supplies.

We are also in touch with interns, their agents, hotels and landlords to offer all possible assistance.

We greatly appreciate their services and offers of help during this Curfew.

We are reaching out to many of you individually to ascertain your needs and welfare and will continue to do so.

Please do not panic.

The travel restrictions are temporary.

The Government of India is working hard to ensure the safety and welfare of all Indian nationals in Mauritius.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly.

Our 24-hour helplines are operational.

Details are available on our social media and website.

Have courage and confidence. Please support each other.

Maintain social distancing. Stay safe.

Let us work together to tide over this difficult situation.

Thank you.
