Indian Oil (Mauritius) Ltd.

6 August 2020

Remarks by High Commissioner Tanmaya Lal

Mr. Parasher,
Colleagues from IOML,
Members of the media,
Ladies & Gentlemen,

I would like to thank the Indian Oil (Mauritius) Ltd. for inviting me here today. This is the second time this year that I am present for the inauguration of a filling station of Indian Oil Mauritius Ltd.

This brand new filling station, I understand is the 26th IOML filling station in Mauritius. This is a creditable achievement for a company that has been present here since the last 17 years. It shows that its retail operations have continued to expand on the basis of quality services that they are able to provide to their customers.

The parent company of IOML Mauritius, the Indian Oil is a premier Public Sector company in India. It has a high ranking among the Fortune Global 500 companies. It has a turnover of nearly US$ 90 billion and a team of more than 33,000 people.

In India the company has a high share in the country’s energy sector, with 11 refineries and 14,000 km long network of pipelines and nearly 30,000 filling stations. Besides the range of petrochemicals, it has a large presence also in the cooking gas and aviation fuel sectors in India.

IOL has a global presence. Outside India, the company has operations not only in Mauritius but is present in more than 10 other countries (UAE, Sri Lanka, Canada, Singapore, Sweden, USA and The Netherlands as also Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal and Bhutan). They have also joint ventures in South Africa, Nigeria, Russia and Venezuela. IOL exports petroleum products to 70 countries.

In Mauritius, IOML has a dedicated pipeline and has strict quality controls on the fuel quality conducted in their own specialized Laboratory. This allows them to deliver assured quality products to their customers.

Many of their employees travel to India to attend specialised training programmes at the Training Institutes of the Indian Oil in Delhi and Mumbai.

The company remains committed to their social responsibility and I understand that during the last one year it has contributed towards important social causes including healthcare, poverty alleviation and helping the vulnerable sections of society. These efforts are commendable.

The expansion of operations of Indian Oil Mauritius is a testimony to the professionalism of the leadership and the entire team of the company. The company is also a symbol of the strong partnership between India and Mauritius.

May I once again congratulate the leadership and the team of Indian Oil Mauritius on this major landmark and wish them continued success in their operations and services.
