My greetings on Eid to all of you.

We are grateful for your invitation to join you for this Eid Celebrations.

We are grateful for the presence of Hon. President and other distinguished dignitaries here this evening.

My wife Sumita and I are humbled and honoured by your kind gesture.

I am conscious that this warm gesture is reflective of the deep bonds between the peoples of our two countries. We share longstanding familial ties.

These ties make our relationship very special and indeed unique in so many ways, despite the distance across the Indian Ocean.

From the moment my wife Sumita and I landed in this beautiful country, we have been touched by the warmth and hospitality of the Mauritian people and every day we continue to discover so many special bonds between our countries.

India and Mauritius both draw their strength and uniqueness from the immense diversity of their peoples who identify themselves with different ethnicities, languages, faiths, festivals and cultures but still live and prosper together. This diversity is reflected in our cuisines, our music, our classical and folk arts which makes us so much more resilient and if I could say - interesting.

The collective heritage in both our countries builds upon numerous different strands and that make it colorful and vibrant.

Your kind invitation to us today demonstrates our close ties. I look forward to working with you and other organizations in Mauritius to help contribute to further enrich these ties that cut across so many different fields. Of arts and culture, education, science and technology, business and development partnership.

We thank you.
