His Excellency former Vice President Mr. Raouf Bundhun,

Mrs. Mariam Goodur and Mr. Goodur,

Members of Aligarh Muslim University Alumni Association,

Friends,

आप सब को मेरा आदाब और ईद मुबारक ।

आपका बहुत बहुत शुक्रिया कि इस ख़ुशी के मौके पर आपने मुझे यहाँ शामिल होने का मौका दिया ।

It is indeed remarkable to meet so many friends who have graduated or studied at the prestigious Aligarh Muslim University. I am told this is the only such Alumni association.

We are proud that you are all very learned and distinguished ambassadors for India here in Mauritius.

Thank you Mr. Bundhun for giving an overview of the number of very accomplished Mauritian friends who studied at Aligarh Muslim University.

आप सब भारत में रह चुके हैं और उसको करीब से देखा है । आप भारतीय समाज की diversity से वाकिफ हैं ।

Aligarh Muslim University has a great legacy and is a university of great renown.

Its founding father Sir Syed Ahmad Khan was deeply committed to the cause of spreading education among the masses as a basis for our progress and success.

Investment in education remains of utmost importance for our all societies. The quality of education- both primary and higher education determines to a very large extent the strength and prosperity of any nation.

While the diaspora ties between our people have in the past had a strong academic linkage as represented by this Alumni Association, I understand that much work is needed to strengthen and promote academic and research collaboration between India and Mauritius today. I am keen to make all efforts to work in this regard.

I will be happy to work with all of you to explore ways of how this can be promoted further.

The Aligarh Muslim University represents one of the strong institutions of India and this Alumni Association is one of the pillars of our friendship.

May I conclude by again extending best wishes to all of you for Eid.
