The High Commission of India, Mauritius organized an event to mark the Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India as National Unity Day on 31^st October 2017 at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, Phoenix.

The event, inter alia, included a talk and screening of short films on the life and contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. A photo-exhibition on Sardar Patel was also organized on the occasion. Hon. Maneesh Gobin, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Human Rights and Institutional Reforms graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

About 120 people, including members of the Indian community, prominent dignitaries and members of socio-cultural organisations of Mauritius, attended the event.
