             A delegation from Government of Bihar led jointly by the Minister of Art, Culture and Youth, Shri. Shiv Chandra Ram, and Minister of Industries,  Shri. Jai Kumar Singh visited Mauritius from 02-07 June 2017. The delegation comprised a ten-member folk vocal and instrumental music troupe, a ten-member painting, sculpture and handicrafts troupe, and officials from Government of Bihar. 

The cultural delegation of artists and artisans held workshops and cultural performances at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), Coromandel and Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture (IGCIC), Phoenix. In association with the Bhojpuri Speaking Union of Mauritius, they held an interactive cultural programme at L’Aventure village, Flacq, where Bhojpuri is widely spoken. During their visit to Aapravasi Ghat, the vocal and instrumental troupe sang together with the artists from Aapravasi Ghat Trust Fund.  The artists also performed at a deck reception on-board the INS Tarkash, the Indian Naval Ship on a goodwill visit to Mauritius.  

Shri. Shiv Chandra Ram and Shri. Jai Kumar Singh called on the Vice President of Mauritius, Mr. Paramasivum Pillay Vyapoory, had meetings with Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr. Prithvirajsing Roopun, Minister of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives, Mr. Soomilduth Bholah, and Minister of Gender Equality, Child Development and Family Welfare, Mrs. Fazila Daureeawoo. They also visited historic landmarks and institutions of Mauritius like Aapravasi Ghat, Ganga Talao, and Gandhi Ashram, Flacq.

Mauritius has an ancestral connection with the state of Bihar in India. With the visit of this delegation, Mauritius and Bihar pledged to renew their historic, cultural and linguistic relationship with each other and to cooperate closely to deepen this relationship.
