Commencement of 150th anniversary year celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary year celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi, High Commissioner of India Shri Abhay Thakur presented seven special commemorative stamps released by the Government of India to four Mauritian dignitaries today. These were Mr. Vijaye Busawon, Chairperson, District Council of Moka, Mr. J. Meetoo, Chairman, Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Mr. G. Gokhool, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Mrs. Soorya Gayan, Director General, Mahatma Gandhi Institute. During his stopover in Mauritius in 1901 on his return journey from South Africa, Mahatma Gandhi had stayed in the Moka district.
A digital display on Bapu is also being showcased at the building of the High Commission of India in Port Louis during the night.

A Gandhi Memorial lecture by Dr. Rajesh Kharat, Associate Professor, Jawaharlal Nehru University, on “Gandhian Philosophy & Academic Curriculum” will be held tomorrow at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute at 1030 hrs.

The High Commission of India will be showing the specially recorded international version of the song “Vaishnav Janato” as well as three documentaries on the life and work of Mahatma Gandhi at the IGCIC, Phoenix on 13th October 2018 at 1100 hrs.
