VISIT OF INDIAN WARSHIP TRIKAND TO PORT LOUIS
(04- 07JULY 2016 and 13-15 JULY 2016) 

In a demonstration of India's commitment to its ties with Mauritius and to promote maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region, Indian Naval Ship Trikand has arrived at Port Louis on a four day visit. INS Trikand, a modern frigate of the Indian Navy, is currently on a two-month long deployment in the Southern Indian Ocean in keeping with the vision of SAGAR - Security and Growth for All in the Region. Accordingly, the Indian Navy will be progressing maritime security cooperation with Mauritius National Coast Guard (NCG) towards ensuring a secure and stable regional maritime environment for unhindered economic development in the region.

INS Trikand's visits part of its mission to carry out joint surveillance and patrol in the Mauritius EEZ with NCG personnel embarked onboard. During the deployment, INS Trikand would also assist local authorities in providing logistics and medical support to the Outer islands of Agalega and St Brandon. Calls on various Mauritian authorities, training and technical cooperation measures with Mauritius National Coast Guard, sporting and cultural interactions imed at strengthening ties and mutual understanding between the two forces, are also planned. At the helm of the ship is the Commanding Officer, Captain Arjun Dev Nair who is assisted by a team of professional and highly motivated men of the Indian Navy.

India has a strong and longstanding relationship with Mauritius. The bilateral defence cooperation includes the fields of training, hydrography and Maritime Domain Awareness.

The Indian Navy regularly undertakes surveillance and patrol missions in the Mauritian EEZ by deploying ships and aircraft in joint operations with NCG officers. These visits also reinforce the cultural and historical ties between the two countries and are a testimony to the joint commitment towards maritime security in the region.
