Welcome Reception of the High Commissioner

The High Commission of India hosted a welcome reception for the new Indian High Commissioner to Mauritius, H.E. Mr. Anurag Srivastava. The event was graced by H.E. Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool, President of Mauritius, Mrs. Brinda Gokhool, First Lady; Dr. the Hon. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Prime Minister of Mauritius; H.E. Mr. J. Y. Robert Hungley, Vice President of Mauritius; Hon. Mr. Paul Bérenger, Deputy Prime Minister of Mauritius; and Hon. Mrs. Shirin Cziffra, Speaker of the National Assembly. Other distinguished guests included Cabinet Ministers, Junior Ministers, members of the diplomatic corps, senior bureaucrats, business leaders, and representatives from the media.

In his address on the occasion, High Commissioner Srivastava thanked the dignitaries for their presence, which was a time reflection of the deep bonds between the two countries. He added that the evening was a celebration of the unique friendship between India and Mauritius, which had stood the test of time and continues to grow with every passing year.

Highlighting various achievements and outcomes in the bilateral partnership, he emphasized India’s commitment to take forward the bilateral partnership based on the priorities of the new government in diverse areas. These include providing eco-friendly connectivity through electric buses, expanding the ‘green partnership’ to fund impactful solutions to address climate change and enhancing educational exchanges and deepening collaboration to foster an innovation and start ups ecosystem.

The IGCIC staged cultural performances, a Kathak dance on soulful Sufi music and a medley of timeless Bollywood songs, which were greatly appreciated.
