Three Day conference of Women Hindi Writers in Mauritius

chaired by the Governor of Goa Smt. Mridula Sinha

from 1-4 September 2017

A three-day Conference on the “Similarities in the thinking and approach of women around the world”, with the participation of the ‘Lekhika Sangh’, a reputed literary organization of women writers of India, comprising 22 prominent Hindi women writers, chaired by Hon’ble Governor of Goa and prominent author Smt. Mridula Sinha, was held at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture under the aegis of the High Commission of India, Mauritius, from 1-4 September 2017. The Conference was supported by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), as well as the Hindi Speaking Union of Mauritius, Hindi Pracharini Sabha of Mauritius, Arya Sabha of Mauritius and Sulabh International of India.   

Prominent Mauritian women writers and poets from different institutes including the Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Hindi Speaking Union, Hindi Pracharini Sabha, Arya Sabha, World Hindi Secretariat and research scholars and students of tertiary and secondary schools in Mauritius actively participated in the Conference. Hon’ble Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, Minister of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research inaugurated the Conference on 1 September 2017 together with Smt. Mridula Sinha. Mrs. Dookun-Luchoomun welcomed the Indian delegation and looked forward to women’s issues being discussed at the forthcoming World Hindi Conference in Mauritius in 2018. Smt. Mridula Sinha stated that the organization of the Women Hindi Conference in Mauritius was a historic moment, since Indian and Mauritian women writers had gathered to discuss sensitive and relevant current issues related to women. The Conference included a Kavi Sammelan, with the participation of women poets from both India and Mauritius. 

During her stay in Mauritius, Smt. Mridula Sinha, Governor of Goa called on Mr. Paramasivum Pillay Vyapoory, Vice President of Mauritius and met Sir Anerood Jugnauth, Minister Mentor and Mr. Prithvirajsing Roopun, Minister of Arts and Culture.
