Celebration of 69th Republic Day of India


       To commemorate the 69th Republic Day of India, the High Commission of India held a flag hoisting ceremony today morning at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture (IGCIC), Phoenix. The ceremony began with the presenting of arms by the Colour Guards of INS Sarvekshak, the visiting Indian Navy survey ship. High Commissioner of India Shri Abhay Thakur unfurled the National Flag of India, and read out the message to the nation by Hon’ble President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind. This was followed by a cultural program by the IGCIC. 

2. A large and enthusiastic gathering of nearly 600 people, including prominent members of the Indian community, Indian nationals working in Mauritius, Mauritian friends of India and their families attended the event. 

3. In the evening today, the survey data collected by INS Sarvekshak to be published as the navigational chart “Approaches to the Grand Port” was handed by the Commanding Officer of INS Sarvekshak to Hon. Purmanund Jhugroo, Minister of Housing and Lands in the presence of High Commissioner of India. The chart will help ensure a higher level of safety of navigation for mariners.

4. On the occasion, humanitarian relief material comprising food items, blankets and medicines on board INS Sarvekshak were handed over by the High Commission of India to the National Corporate Social Responsibility Foundation of Mauritius, for distribution to needy persons affected by the recent Berguitta cyclonic storm, in the presence of Hon. Alain Wong, Minister for Social Integration and Economic Empowerment, Government of Mauritius.

5. A substitute Inshore Survey Vessel (ISV) for the Pathfinder of NCG was also handed over to the Government of Mauritius on the occasion.
