A talk by Mr. Sanjeev Sanyal - Member, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India

  1. Mr. Sanjeev Sanyal - Member, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India, visited Mauritius to participate in the "Africa Partnership Conference" organised by the Economic Development Board of Mauritius and delivered a special address on “How can India be the preferred economic development partner for Africa”. During his visit, Mr. Sanyal also met key leaders and officials in the Government of Mauritius.
     

  2. The High Commission of India in collaboration with the Indian Business Council (IBC) in Mauritius, organised a talk by Mr. Sanjeev Sanyal on “India’s Economic Acceleration: Decoding India’s $5 trillion quest and opportunities for Africa” on 4th October 2023. More than 150 participants from the Government, Diplomatic Corps, Media, Financial sector and the business community of Mauritius attended the event.
     

  3. During the event at the High Commission of India, Dr. Suresh Nanda, President of the IBC, said that IBC was launched to promote the commercial relationship between Mauritius, India & the African continent. Dr. Nanda also added that IBC members have a unique distinction of having in-depth knowledge and experience of India, Mauritius, and also Africa.
     

  4. In her remarks at the event, the High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, Mrs. K. Nandini Singla underlined that economic linkages form an important pillar of the privileged partnership between India and Mauritius. She also emphasized that the idea of CECPA is to make Mauritius a springboard for Indian businesses and investments into Africa, tapping into the network of Free Trade Agreements that Mauritius has with the African continent.
     

  5. During his keynote address, Mr. Sanyal, inter-alia, apprised the audience about India’s economic growth story and various reforms that have further accelerated it. He also highlighted some upcoming initiatives such as a new sovereign credit rating system that India is planning to create.
     

  6. During an interactive session following his talk, Mr. Sanyal responded to a wide array of questions, covering India-AU (African Union) relationship, his opinion on realizing the objectives of BRICS, Education & Skilling ecosystem of India, reconstruction of an ancient stitched ship to showcase the rich maritime heritage of India to the world, etc.
