PRESS RELEASE

AGREEMENTS SIGNED BETWEEN INDIA AND MAURITIUS

(10 MARCH 2017)

Government of India is providing a grant of USD 353 million to the Government of Mauritius, as a Special Economic Package, to assist five projects of priority to Mauritius, namely: Metro Express, New Supreme Court Building, E - Tablets, Social Housing and new ENT hospital. In November 2016, an advance amount of MUR 1.8 billion (USD 52.95 million) was transferred by the Government of India to the Government of Mauritius.

In implementation of these projects, the following three documents were signed today between the two countries:

1. An agreement between M/s RITES, an Indian Public Sector Undertaking and the Government of Mauritius appointing M/s RITES as Consultant for the Metro Express Project.

2. An agreement between M/s EDCIL, an Indian Public Sector Undertaking and the Government of Mauritius appointing M/s EDCIL as Consultant for the E-Tablets Project.

3. An agreement between M/s NBCC, an Indian Public Sector Undertaking and the Government of Mauritius appointing M/s NBCC as Consultant for the new Supreme Court Building Project.

In addition, the following two documents were also signed today :

1. An addendum to Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) and State Trading Corporation Mauritius (STCM) for Petroleum bunkering facility at Albion, Mauritius. Work for preparation of the Detailed Project Report for the project will commence shortly.

2. An agreement between M/s RITES and Government of Mauritius appointing M/s RITES as Consultant for preparation of Detailed Project Report for Project Trident, which comprises New Headquarters-cum-Maritime Rescue Coordination centre Complex for National Coast Guard (NCG) of Mauritius and allied facilities. Project Trident shall be implemented under a USD 52.3 million Line of Credit and a USD 4 million grant from the Government of India.

High Commissioner of India and senior Mauritian officials from the Prime Minister’s Office; Ministry of Defence; Ministry of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research; Supreme Court of Mauritius and Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Consumer Protection were present on the occasion.
