Indian Public Sector Undertakings in Mauritius contribute to Corporate Social Responsibility

        The Indian Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) present in Mauritius have been contributing to the growth of the Mauritian economy for the last several decades. As part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the Indian PSUs have been undertaking several projects in various fields from time to time.

As part of their contributions to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the Indian PSUs present in Mauritius namely, Life Insurance Corporation of India, Indian Oil (Mauritius) Ltd., SBI (Mauritius) Ltd., New India Assurance Ltd. and Bank of Baroda handed over the following amount for two projects- (1) for Mauritius Heart Foundation, a prominent non-profit Non-Governmental Organisation in Mauritius established to reduce the incidence of cardiovascular disease through public education and supporting research (2) for ZEP (Zone d’Education Prioritaire) Schools, a project aimed to raise the level of educational achievement in schools located in deprived areas.

3.  On March 25, 2010, a jumbo cheque for MRs. 3.2 million was handed over to Mr. P. Gungadin, President, Mauritius Heart Foundation by the High Commissioner on behalf of Indian PSUs in presence of Dr. the Hon. Vasant Kumar Bunwaree, Minister of Education, Culture and Human Resources, who is also the founder-member of the Mauritius Heart Foundation. Telecommunications Consultants India Ltd also later handed over a cheque for MRs. 100,000 to Mauritius Heart Foundation. Dr. N. Gopee, Director General, Health Services was also present.

4.  On March 29, 2010, another jumbo cheque for MRs. 3.07961 million was handed over by the High Commissioner on behalf of Indian PSUs to Dr. the Hon. Vasant Kumar Bunwaree, Minister of Education, Culture and Human Resources for the ZEP schools.

5.  The Indian PSUs continue to demonstrate their commitment by functioning ethically while also contributing to the local community and society at large.
