Type of Visas

The type of visa to be given depends upon the purpose of the visit. While applying for visa, you must clearly indicate the purpose of travel to India.

For all kinds of visas:

1- The passport should be valid for at least 6 months at the time of application.
2- There should be at least two blank pages on the passport.
3- Applicant should have a sound financial standing to enable him to meet the expenditure related to visit in India.
4- All visa fees once paid are non-refundable irrespective of the outcome of the visa application and duration granted.
5- Please note that the validity of the visa is effective from the date of issue of visa.
6- Payment of Visa Fees: The Embassy does not accept payment of visa fees by credit/debit cards or by personal cheques. If the payment is made at the counter at the Embassy, if should be paid in cash.
 
If the applicant is a minor:
(i) If travelling with both parents - a copy of the citizen card / ID of both parents and of the child should also be submitted along with the application.
(ii) If travelling with only one parent only - a copy of the citizen card / ID of both parents and of the child. In addition a letter authorising the child to travel with the other parent, from the parent who will not travel with the child (original copy authenticated by a notary) should be submitted.
(iii) If travelling with other family members or friends - the same as in (i) but this time both parents must give permission and the person travelling with the child will need to provide his identification.
 
 
Type of Visa  Purpose
Transit Visa (i) If the purpose of travel is to transit through India to or from a third country, and the first entry into India will be made within 15 days of issue of visa. No more than 2 entries into India will be allowed on Transit visa. The person on Transit visa is not permitted to remain in India for more than 3 days on each entry.
(ii) Do not apply for Transit visa if you are likely to make the first entry into India later than 15 days from the date of issue of visa, OR during the three days of stay in India you would want to do touring, business or any other activity.
Tourist Visa If the purpose of visit is recreation, sightseeing and casual meeting with friends and relatives, and nothing else. If you have a residence in India, or have an occupation in India, please do not apply for a tourist visa.
Entry Visa Entry visa is generally granted if the purpose of visit is primarily to visit your relatives in India. Entry Visas are also issued to sportsmen on a sports visit, dependents of business visa holders / employment visa holders, mountaineers, short term yoga and spiritual courses and visitors on paid/unpaid internships.
Business Visa Business visa is issued for conducting business with an Indian company or agency. The activity should not include employment with a company in India. Business visas are valid for a year with multiple entries. Those who are seeking visa to work for an Indian company should apply for an Employment Visa.
Employment Visa If you are offered a regular employment with a reputed company in India. An Employment Visa is granted to those who are an employee of an Indian company / or those who intend to do honorary work (without salary) with Registered NGOs in India. The Embassy/Consulate may grant Employment visa valid for a limited validity irrespective of the duration of the contract. Further extension up to 5 years can be obtained from MHA / FRRO in the concerned state in India.
Project Visa Within the Employment Visa regime, a separate visa regime for foreign nationals coming to India for execution of projects in power and steel sectors, to be labelled as Project (‘P’) visa has been introduced. The Project Visa will cover only the Power and steel Sectors. 
Grant of Project Visa will be subject to the following conditions:
(1) The Visa would be project specific and, while issuing the visa, a specific endorsement would be made on the Visa sticker indicating the name of the project for which visa is issued and location of the project. In no circumstances would the person be allowed to be engaged in another project either of the same company or of a different company.
(2) The period of visa would be initially for a period of one year or for the actual duration of the project / contract, whichever is less, with multi-entry facility. The visa can be extended only with the approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
(3) The employment/working of the foreign personnel would be restricted to the location of the project.
(4) The Project visa would be issued based on submission of the relevant documents clearly establishing that the project/contract has been assigned to the particular foreign company by the Indian company/organization concerned.
(5) The Project Visa would be issued only for skilled/highly skilled persons.
(6) The Indian Company engaging the foreign national for executing the project contract would be responsible for the conduct of the foreign national during his/her stay in India and also for the departure of such foreign national upon expiry of visa.
(7) In case the project/contract site falls in the Protected/Restricted Area notified by the Government, the grant of Protected/Restricted Area Permit should be integrated with the grant of Project Visa.
Conference Visa If you are visiting India to participate in a seminar or conference.
Journalist Visa If you are a journalist by profession.
Medical Visa If you are travelling to India for medical treatment of an ailment of serious nature.
Medical Attendant Visa If you are accompanying a person who has been granted medical visa, as his/her escort.
Student Visa If you have been offered admission by a reputed educational institution in India.
Research Visa If you are travelling to India for research purposes.
Diplomatic Visa If you hold a diplomatic passport and are travelling to India for official work.
Govt. Officials Visa If you hold an official / service passport and are travelling to India for official work.
UN Officials Visa If you hold a UN passport and travelling to India for official work.
 

Important Notice regarding e-Tourist Visa (eTV)

To avail e-Tourist Visa facility, started with effect from November 27, 2014 for Mauritian nationals, please log on to (http://indianvisaonline.gov.in) and click on the Tab/Heading"e-Tourist Visa (eTV)". It's a three-step process involving (i) Application online,(ii) Receive e-Tourist Visa (eTV) at your email ID and (iii) Fly to India with Passport and printout of e-Tourist Visa (eTV).

Note :For availing Visa on arrival facility for visiting India, obtaining e-Tourist Visa (eTV) through above procedure is mandatory.Without eTV, the Airline would not allow boarding.

For obtaining the usual gratis Visa of all types including tourist Visa on free of charge basis from the High Commission of India (HCI) at Port Louis, please log on to (http://indianvisaonline.gov.in) and click on the Tab/Heading "Regular Visa Application" and follow the step by step user-friendly procedure. After completion of the form online, please take a print out and submit the signed form at the HCI, Port Louis along with other requisite documents and two passport size photos.

Steps for Regular Visa Application:

i) Log on to the website-(http://indianvisaonline.gov.in) and click on the Tab/Heading "Regular Visa Application"
ii) Select "Country you are applying visa from" as Mauritius
iii) Select Mission as Mauritius-Port Louis
iv) Fill all the mandatory items marked by red star (*), save the form, obtain a print out of the same, and sign it.
v) Applicants are then requested to produce the print-out of the application along with their passport, two passport size photographs, and other required supporting documents (see below) at the visa counter of the High Commission. Timings for submission and collection of Visa can be seen under 'Consular Working Hours'

v) Applicants are then requested to produce the print-out of the application along with their passport, two passport size photographs, and other required supporting documents (see below) at the visa counter of the High Commission. Timings for submission and collection of Visa can be seen under 'Consular Working Hours'

REQUIREMENTS FOR VISA TO TRAVEL TO INDIA

Tourist Visa

  • Passport (with minimum 6 months validity)
  • Properly filled up online application form with signature of the applicant – (indianvisaonline.gov.in)
  • 2 recent photos 51mm x 51 mm not older than 3 months, with white background. Clarity of the photo is very important (one affixed on the application and other to be uploaded online (see 'Guidelines for Photographs)
  • Confirmed air booking for onward and return journey
  • Receipt of exchange of money in the name of applicant at the rate of US $ 50 (fifty) per day per person for stay in India.
    (or)
    A notarised letter of sponsorship from a person residing in India, guaranteeing all expenses of the applicant (s) in India.
    (or)
    Letter from the bank indicating the financial means of the applicant to meet the expenses in India or a recent Bank Statement.
    (or)
    Photocopy of credit card accompanying a letter from the bank indicating the credit limit.

  • Proof of place of stay in India eg. confirmed hotel booking with dates orletter from relative / friend in India indicating full name, address and telephone numbers of the friend / relative with whom applicant intends to stay along with Id proof of the relative/friend in India.

Business Visa

  • Passport (with minimum 6 months validity)
  • Properly filled up online application form with signature of the applicant – (indianvisaonline.gov.in)
  • 2 recent photos 51mm x 51 mm not older than 3 months, with white background. Clarity of the photo is very important (one affixed on the application and other to be uploaded online (see 'Guidelines for Photographs)
  • Confirmed air booking for onward and return journey
  • Letter from the company in Mauritius, indicating the exact nature of business to be transacted and the details of the person deputed for the purpose.
  • Letter from the company in India, indicating the details of the person, visiting India, and the nature of the business.

Student Visa

  • Passport (with minimum 6 months validity)
  • Properly filled up online application form with signature of the applicant – (indianvisaonline.gov.in)
  • 2 recent photos 51mm x 51 mm not older than 3 months, with white background. Clarity of the photo is very important (one affixed on the application and other to be uploaded online (see 'Guidelines for Photographs)
  • Confirmed air booking for onward and return journey
  • Provisional proof of admission / eligibility certificate from the concerned educational institution recognised / approved by theGovernment of India
  • Letter from bank certifying to the financial means of parent / guardian to meet the expenses in India or a recent Bank Statement.

Student Visa Extension

Passport (with minimum 6 months validity)

  • Properly filled up online application form with signature of the applicant – (indianvisaonline.gov.in)
  • 2 recent photos 51mm x 51 mm not older than 3 months, with white background. Clarity of the photo is very important (one affixed on the application and other to be uploaded online (see 'Guidelines for Photographs)

Confirmed air booking for onward and return journey

Copy of identity card issued by the educational institution

Bonafide certificate indicating duration of the course being pursued by the student

Residence Permit photocopy

Employment Visa (Approval Subject to Admissibility)

Passport (with minimum 6 months validity)

  • Properly filled up online application form with signature of the applicant – (indianvisaonline.gov.in)
  • 2 recent photos 51mm x 51 mm not older than 3 months, with white background. Clarity of the photo is very important (one affixed on the application and other to be uploaded online (see 'Guidelines for Photographs)

Copy of employment contract received from the Indian employer.

  • Copy of the Registration papers of Company/Companies in India offering the Employment;
  • Copy of educational qualification documents and curriculum vitae

Note: For foreigners intending to visit for honorary work (without salary) with Registered NGOs in India should apply for ‘Employment visa’ and are required to submit the following documents:

  • Proof of his/her Employment Letter from the Employer;
  • Invitation Letter for voluntary;
  • Name and place of work in India

Medical Visa

Passport (with minimum 6 months validity)

  • Properly filled up online application form with signature of the applicant – (indianvisaonline.gov.in)
  • 2 recent photos 51mm x 51 mm not older than 3 months, with white background. Clarity of the photo is very important (one affixed on the application and other to be uploaded online (see 'Guidelines for Photographs)
  • Letter from the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life of the Government of Mauritius or hospital in India indicating name, passport details and date of travel of patient and accompanying person (if any) to India for treatment

Note: Applicants going on private medical visit should provide the following:

  • Letter from hospital in India indicating name, passport details and date of travel of patient and accompanying person(if any) to India for treatment.
  • Proof of previous medical check up in Mauritius or a Letter from a Hospital/Clinic recommending the person to go to India for further treatment.
  • Proof of availability of sufficient funds for the duration of stay and the expenses for treatment in India should be submitted in addition to documents listed.

Entry Visa (X - Visa)

Passport (with minimum 6 months validity)

Properly filled up online application form with signature of the applicant – (indianvisaonline.gov.in)

  • 2 recent photos 51mm x 51 mm not older than 3 months, with white background. Clarity of the photo is very important (one affixed on the application and other to be uploaded online (see 'Guidelines for Photographs)

Documentary evidence required for Entry Visa.

A person of Indian origin and holding renounced Indian passport copy and surrender certificate copy can apply for entry visa.

Person of Indian origin, his/her spouse and dependent children may be granted entry visa subject to their producing proof of the PIO status, marriage certificate (in respect of spouse) or birth certificate (in respect of the children).

In respect of spouse -Marriage certificate in English attested from concerned State home department or Indian mission or endorsement of spouse name in Indian passport is required.

In respect of the children - Birth Certificate in English and both parents passport copy.

Seamen who will be inspecting/joining a vessel in India.

Foreign nationals going to India for training (Educational/Athletic/Yoga) purpose.

For Sports/tournament from school/college can be accepted for Entry Visa. Foreign national married to an Indian (holding Indian passport) or spouse of an OCI/PIO cardholder and dependent children may be granted Entry visa subject to production of necessary proof.

Research Visa

Properly filled up online application form with signature of the applicant – (indianvisaonline.gov.in)

  • 2 recent photos 51mm x 51 mm not older than 3 months, with white background. Clarity of the photo is very important (one affixed on the application and other to be uploaded online (see 'Guidelines for Photographs)

Information from the institute/ organization where applicant studying/employed.

Letter from the Indian institution stating that the applicant has been selected as a Researcher.The Embassy/Consulate reserves the right to ask for additional documents.

Applicants are requested NOT to finalize their travel plans before their applications have been accepted by the Indian Visa Mission

for issuing the required visa.

Journalist Visa

Properly filled up online application form with signature of the applicant – (indianvisaonline.gov.in)

Original passport

Letter from employer stating purpose of visit.

Copy of Journalist accreditation card or Press ID.

For photographers/cameraman – List of equipment's being carried by him/her

For Documentary/Filmmakers – Document mentioning the synopsis of the documentary crew list, filming locations.

The Embassy/Consulate reserves the right to ask for additional documents.

Applicants are requested NOT to finalize their travel plans before their applications have been accepted by the Indian Visa Mission for issuing the required visa.

Conference Visa

Invitation letter from the organizer of the conference.

NOC from the local sponsor (If traveling in personal capacity, NOC not required).
