Inauguration of Ashok Stambh at the Indian High Commission by the Mauritian Prime Minister on the occasion of 73rd Republic Day of India 26 January 2022

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth inaugurated a replica of the Sarnath ‘Ashok Stambh’ in the new Indian High Commission premises in Mauritius on the occasion of the 73^rd Republic Day of India on 26^th January 2022. It was befitting that the event was held on this date, since the National Emblem of India was adopted from the Sarnath ‘Ashok Stambh’ when India became a Republic on this very day in 1950. This date was chosen by the High Commission to mark the fact that this was the very first Republic Day celebration being held in the new Indian High Commission premises in Ebene, Mauritius. The High Commission moved to this building early last year
