The inauguration of the Ayurvedic Garden at the State House, Réduit

Inauguration of an Ayurvedic Garden at the State House, Reduit was held yesterday in the presence of H.E. Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, President of the Republic of Mauritius; Hon. Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius; High Commissioner Mrs K. Nandini Singla and other dignitaries. A commemorative plaque was unveiled on the occasion.
The Ayurvedic Garden was developed with the support of Ministry of Ayush of India and the Ayurveda Chair at the University of Mauritius, as a special initiative marking the 75th anniversary of India-Mauritius diplomatic relations.
The Garden is situated in the immediate vicinity of the State House, over a land area of 3,400 m2, and comprises 60 types of Ayurvedic plants with medicinal properties. The plants bear an identification plate and a QR Code enabling instant access to additional information. In the next phase of development of the Garden, new varieties of Ayurvedic plants which are not available in Mauritius would be brought in from India.
Speaking on the occasion, High Commissioner Mrs K. Nandini Singla highlighted that Mauritius is a flagship partner of India in the promotion of Ayurveda. Some initiatives in this regard include the grant of a legal status to Ayurveda; the setting up of six clinics dispensing ayurvedic treatment; and the forthcoming establishment of the Centre of Excellence for Ayurveda in Côte d’Or for treatment, research, teaching and medical tourism purposes.
