First Mauritius Kabaddi team departs for India

At the invitation of the International Kabaddi Federation (IKF), Mauritian Men and Women teams would be travelling to Bihar, India from 27th August to 18th September 2016, led by an IKF coach. During this period, they will undergo professional training prior to matches to be played against other teams.

Kabaddi is a contact sport having origin in ancient India and is presently a popular sport in various parts of South Asia. The sport lays emphasis on tremendous physical fitness, strength, agility and team work. Kabaddi was introduced in Mauritius in March 2015 by Kabaddi Association, Mauritius.

Composition of Teams:

Men Team: Rudy Jonathan Bassy (vice-captain), AnkeshMundataAyrga (captain), Mohammad ZiyaadAkim, DeorajHurnarain, PrithiviBeeharry.

Women team: ShaheenKawsarMoosun(vice-captain), Sazia Bibi Fatima Sheik Panchoo(captain), Lacharmante Marie Unesstazy, Sangeeta Hookoom, Mariam bibiJaunbocus-Akim, SevanieMoothien, SarikaBhoonderowaBrijmohun, HemaRamnarain, RoushikaAyrga.

The teams called on H.E. the High Commissioner of India to Mauritius Sh. Abhay Thakur on the 22nd of August, 2016 before their departure to India, when the High Commissioner extended his best wishes for the future of Kabaddi in Mauritius and to the teams.
