Award of course certificates by the

Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, High Commission of India

186 Mauritian students of the IGCIC were awarded course completion certificates at the 31st annual ‘Convocation Day’ on 20th January 2018, in the presence of the H.E. Dr. Ameenah Gurib Fakim, President of the Republic of Mauritius as Chief Guest. The event included a colourful cultural programme comprising students of all four faculties of Yoga, Kathak, Tabla and Hindustani vocal of the IGCIC.

In his remarks on the occasion, High Commissioner of India Shri Abhay Thakur spoke about forthcoming events of cultural importance in the year 2018, the 50th anniversary year of the independence of Mauritius. Emphasizing that age-old cultural and family ties between the people of India and Mauritius provides the solid foundation of our multifaceted cooperation, he said that spiritual tourism and the diversity of Indian pilgrimage circuits held a special attraction for all sections of the Mauritian society.

President of Mauritius H.E. Dr. Ameenah Gurib Fakim expressed her full support for all round cultural cooperation between India and Mauritius. She said that pursuit of art and culture had a key role in promoting harmony in the multi-ethnic and multi-lingual society of Mauritius. She lauded the efforts of the IGCIC faculty in bringing out artistic talents of their Mauritian students from all age groups, constantly enriching their lives as well as further strengthening the emotional and cultural bonds between the people of India and Mauritius.
