MCGS Guardian: Service Life Extension Refit

The CGS Guardian has arrived in Mauritius from India last week after a six months long Service Life Extension Refit (SLER) which has given a new lease of life to the ship. The Guardian was donated to the Mauritius Coast Guard by the Indian Navy in 1993 for search and rescue missions as well as surveillance operations over its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The refurbishment, which began in December 2017, was done at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.

Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi, during the State visit of Prime Minister of Mauritius Hon. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, to India in May2017, made an announcement that the life of the CGS Guardian would be extended under a grant assistance programme. The SLER has accordingly being completed on schedule in a timely manner.
