Message to Indian Community
During Curfew in Mauritius

High Commissioner Tanmaya Lal
29 March 2020

Namaskar,

It is a week since Mauritius went under a Curfew to fight Coronavirus.

Today I would like to once again talk to all our Indian friends here.

First of all, let me complement all of you on showing patience, courage and solidarity in these very difficult times, when many of you would like to be with your families in India.

We continue to reach out daily to students and their colleges, interns and their agents and landlords, tourists and others to ensure welfare.

I would like to thank all the College authorities for continuing to taking good care of their students in this extraordinary situation.

There are no shortages of essential items and there is no need to panic.

Through this message, I would also like to thank the Government of Mauritius and our Mauritian friends for helping us to assist you despite the Curfew.

Dear Friends,

We all know that Social distancing is the only way to break the chain of transmission and save lives.

Therefore, drastic measures are in place across the world. These are essential even if inconvenient.

Travel restrictions are temporary but absolutely necessary at this stage.

The success of all these measures depends entirely on our cooperation.

Friends,

Let me reassure you that the Government of India is making all efforts to ensure your safety and welfare.

We at the High Commission will continue to assist you.

Our 24-hour helplines will remain operational.

Please support each other and follow advisories.

Stay indoors. Maintain social distancing and stay safe.

Thank you.
