COMMUNITY SERVICE BY INS DARSHAK

1.  Indian Naval Ship (INS) Darshak is on a 45-day long deployment to Mauritius from 31 Oct 22 to 15 Dec 22 for hydrography and joint EEZ surveillance operations, in addition to multiple training related activities, sports fixtures, professional interactions with the NCG and other activities.

 2.  As part of celebrations for the upcoming Indian Navy Day on 04 Dec, the ship undertook a community service event at the Laventure Technical School for Disabled, Shivala Road, Laventure, Flacq on 19 Nov 22. The ship’s crew engaged with the specially abled children of the school by conducting a medical camp, gifting of stationery and provisions; and also undertook minor maintenance activity in the school premises.

 3.  The presentation ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Blue Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping, Honourable Mr. Sudheer Maudhoo. The Minister thanked the team from INS Darshak for their valuable contribution in support of this noble cause.

 4.  The ship arrived in Mauritius on 18 Nov 22 for her second port call after successfully completing joint EEZ surveillance and Anti-Drug/ IUU Fishing Patrol with the National Coast Guard of Mauritius and hydrographic survey in the EEZ of Mauritius.

 5.  INS Darshak will also assist the National Coast Guard in the conduct of maritime training workshops by experts from the Indian Navy in aspects like damage control and firefighting.

 6.  As part of the visit, more such interactions of the ship’s crew with the local community are planned. In order to allow the Mauritian people a glimpse of this state-of-the-art ship, the ship will be open to visitors on the 04 Dec 22. These interactions will serve to deepen and widen the engagement between the people of India and Mauritius. The deployment of the ship is a testimony to the special relationship between the two countries.
